Author Stephen King is prolific. The science fiction/horror writer has written 54 books.
When asked about the secret to his success, he simply answers:
“Amateurs sit and wait for inspiration, the rest of us just get up and go to work.”
James Michener wrote 40 books – epic novels about his favorite places like “Alaska,” “Hawaii” and “Texas.”
How did he do it? Michener said:
“Whatever I did, there was always someone around who was better qualified. They just didn’t bother to do it.”
No matter what you do for a living, the above quotes express the same sentiment: You’ve got to show up and do the work.
Unmotivated? Do the work.
Tired? Do the work.
Stressed? Do the work.
Losing? Do the work.
Winning? Do the work.
Overconfident? Do the work.
We may not always feel like it, but we’ve got to show up, try, struggle, lose, win – and do the work.
Have a great week.
